10* graded play on Western Kentucky as they take on LA-Monroe in college hardwood action set to start at 8:30 PM ET. The simulator shows a high probability that WK will win this game by 12 or more points. They return four starters on this year’s edition and the that playing experience and chemistry is a huge advantage when facing an inferior foe in a rebuilding year with just one returning starter. Supporting this graded play further is a proven system posting a 40-13 ATS for 76% winners since 1997. Play against dogs of 10 to 19.5 points that is a poor shooting team from last season that made <=42% of their shot attempts and with just one or fewer starters returning from last year and with the current game being on of the first 10 games of the season. This underscores the chemistry advantage that a seasoned team with four or five returning starters has over a team that was struggling last year and now has to rebuild in the current season. Take Western Kentucky.

Michigan State plays a tough non-conference schedule early every year to prepare it for big games like this and bigger ones down the road. They split their first two contests, losing to Connecticut 62-66 while beating Kansas 67-64. Those two games have them battle-tested going forward.

While the Spartans have won five straight, head coach Tom Izzo has not been happy with his team turning the ball over 20 times in back-to-back games. “I think our guys are going to be great citizens when they get done with basketball, because the Christmas season is lasting all year,” Izzo said. “They’re giving gifts away.”

“I don’t like the way our team is at all,” Izzo said. “I’m just trying to figure how much of it is due to our preparation or lack thereof with the guys who are injured. But that doesn’t have anything to do with some of my key guys turning it over four or five times.”

Izzo always has a way of calling out his players and getting them to respond. I look for the Spartans to put forth their most dominant effort of the season Wednesday at Miami. They’ll be up against a Hurricanes’ team that is only forcing 14.3 turnovers/game.

Miami will not be battle-tested at all coming into this contest as it has played a very weak schedule en route to a 3-1 start. It has home wins over Stetson, Jacksonville and Detroit, and a road loss at Florida Gulf Coast by a final of 51-63. That loss shows that the Hurricanes have a lot of work to do, and this will be by far their stiffest test of the season.

Michigan State is 8-0 ATS vs. teams who are called for 3+ less fouls/game than their opponents over the last 2 seasons. The Spartans are 24-7-2 ATS in their last 33 road games following three or more consecutive home games. The Hurricanes are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. Big Ten opponents. Bet Michigan State Wednesday.

Illinois came into the season unranked and not even receiving a single vote in the AP Poll or the USA Today/ESPN Poll. Now the Illini are ranked 22nd in both polls thanks to a perfect 7-0 start that included a championship at the Maui Invitational but it wasn’t all their doing. To be honest, Illinois was fortunate that Butler was able to take out both Marquette and North Carolina as either of those teams would have likely taken out the Illini. Still, it is off to a surprising start and it followed up that Hawaii trip with a one-point win over Gardner Webb on Sunday and I think that is more in line of what this team is made of. Because of the start and the ranking, the Illini are overvalued. Georgia Tech is off to a 4-1 start and this is another team that is on the rise but not quite back to where it used to be. The Yellow Jackets are on the same line with Illinois in that they are two teams with great history but coming off some disappointments and now in rebuilding mode. Georgia Tech went just 4-12 in the ACC last season but is expected to be much better as all five starters are back to go along with a very solid recruiting class. Georgia Tech is coming off a big win over St. Mary’s in Anaheim and that victory could be a spark to what lies ahead. The defense was the strength last season and it has already performed better this season, allowing just 51.8 ppg on 37.1 percent shooting including 28.6 percent from long range. The Illini have been shooting very well but that could be an aberration as they were not a good shooting or scoring team a year ago. Illinois has a breakeven 1.00 assist/turnover ratio which is not very good considering its record so the Yellow Jackets defense can dictate this game. A low scoring game is in our favor with the generous line we are getting here. Play (757) Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Pick: Minnesota +3
Take Minnesota +3 at Florida State. The Gophers have played Duke, Memphis and Stanford this year so they should be prepared to face good competition. The Seminoles have already lost one game to a weak team earlier in November. Tubby Smith’s team is led by Rodney Williams and Trevor Mbakwe. I think we see a close game with Minnesota winning by a small margin but take the points in this ACC/Big Ten Challenge early game. -Red Dog Sports. Pick: Detroit -3.5
Can you say REVENGE?! Last year, these two teams met and everything went wrong for Detroit. The Titans committed 21 TOs, had to put a backup Forward in for 30 minutes (usually plays 12 minutes) due to an injury to their 6’9″ starter, had issues because Love was in early foul trouble, and Holman was out. This season, four players are combining for 60.5 PPG and 21.3 RPG. The nucleus of their starting five are all athletic and talented. The backcourt of 6’3″ McCallum and 6’2″ Calliste will have their way with 5’6″ Crawford at both ends. Don’t judge UDMs 0-2 road record so fast. They went up against St. Johns and Miami Florida in those away games. The Falcons losses were to Cleveland State, Indiana Purdue, and Robert Morris. No comparison. Take Detroit here. -Joseph D’Amico
