Alabama vs. Vanderbilt Prediction: College Football Picks for October 8th 2011

Alabama vs. Vanderbilt
Prediction: Alabama -28.5 (October 8th 2011)

Our early season forecast in College Football had Alabama (5-0 SU, 4-1 ATS) as the SEC and BCS Champion as Nick Saban has our interest once again this season. Hopefully, you had a substantial interest last week in the ‘Bama 38-10 derailing of Gators down in the SWAP. This time around our favorites take on the Commies. The Tide is running rough shod over Vanderbilt at 43-2 SU in the series. The last time these units met was in 2007 when Alabama finished 7-6 SU, Vanderbilt hung tough, but fell eventually 24-10 as a three-point UNDERDOG. In 2011 Vanderbilt (3-1) has defeated ELON, UConn and Ole Miss, losing only to South Carolina 21-3. In the SEC encounter with the Gamecocks the Commies offense was stymied gaining only 77 net yards, 4 on the ground. This is the key to the Alabama since the Tide is ranked #3 in total defense allowing only 191.6 yards per game. Vandy is #82 in scoring offense, that should pretty much tell you about the fundamental statistical advantages for the Tide. Granted the Commies are 9-1 ATS in the second of back-to-back roadies and 5 of 6 ATS at Alabama, but I have more faith in the Tuscaloosa site and Little Nicky. Vandy brought back 19 starters from last season, but the legend shows just 7 SU wins since 2009. So, the experience in road settings helps Vanderbilt, but OVERALL contending with a focused, driven squad like Alabama is simply too much considering their QB Larry Smith (Vanderbilt)is banged up. College Football Picks for October 1st 2011: Western Michigan vs. UConn

Western Michigan vs. UConn
College Football Pick: Western Michigan +3 (October 1st 2011)

The Western Michigan Broncos are the real deal. WMU is 2-2 on the season, with their only losses coming to Michigan and Illinois. I like their chances of winning outright Saturday at Connecticut, a team that is clearly in rebuilding mode.

Michigan only held a 288-281 yard edge on the Broncos, and that game was a lot closer than the final score of 10-34 would indicate. They were -3 in turnovers which proved to be the difference. WMU only lost 20-23 at Illinois last week, and got an excellent 306-yard passing performance from QB Alex Carder.

Connecticut is off to a 2-2 start as well, and they have had little offense to speak of all season. They lost 21-24 at Vanderbilt while compiling just 193 total yards, and they lost to Iowa State 20-24 at home despite getting three early interceptions in that one. UConn did beat Buffalo 17-3 last week, but they managed just 293 total yards against a very poor Bulls defense.

The QB play in this one is going to be the difference. Carder is completing 68.7 percent of his passes for 987 yards and seven touchdowns to four interceptions for WMU, while Johnny McEntee is completing just 47.8 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and four interceptions for UConn.

It’s not like the Huskies are getting much production on the ground, either. UConn is rushing for 122 yards per game on an average of 40 attempts, which is just 3.0/carry. Western Michigan has played the tougher schedule thus far with two quality Big Ten opponents, and that will have them more battle-tested heading into this showdown with lowly Connecticut. Bet Western Michigan Saturday.

Cincinnati vs. Miami Ohio Prediction: College Football Picks for October 1st 2011

Cincinnati vs. Miami Ohio
Prediction: Cincinnati -15 (October 1st 2011)

5* graded play on Cincinnati as they take on Miami (Ohio) set to start at 1:00 PM ET. My proprietary sports handicapping database and simulator shows a high probability that Cincinnati will win this game by 17 or more points. Supporting this graded play is a system that has produced a record of 30-4 ATS for 88% winners since 2000. Play against a home team after allowing 37 points or more last game facing an opponent after 2 straight wins by 28 or more points. Bearcats have played very well destroying Akron 59-14 and covering the 38 point number in Week 3 and an more impressive in against NC State defeating them 44-14 and easily covering the 7 1/2 point number. Miami (Ohio) is not playing well and took a tough home loss to Bowling Green 37-23 in which they were installed as a 4 point favorite. On both sides of the ball Cincinnati enjoys significant advantages and I just don’t see how Bowling Green will be able to play against them for four quarters. Take Cincy.

Ryan nailed his 25* Big East Game of the Month Thursday with Pittsburgh destroying No. 16 South Florida 44-17 and has released his 25* Big-Ten Game of the Month winner. He also has a 15* High Noon Titan and a 15* Pac-12 Titan on the late evening card. Get them all an look to sweep! Get more college football picks from John Ryan at
