Philadelphia Phillies vs. Cincinnati Reds
MLB Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies -168 odds (August 31st 2011)
Phillies bats are just hot right now and I think they will go for the sweep over the Reds with Cliff Lee on the mound who has just dominated August over his last 4 starts he has a 0.58 ERA. He faces a good lineup that can hit lefties, but as I mentioned in game 1 when they faced Cole Hamels when this line up faces quality LHP they do struggle. They’ve largely benefited from having the least amount of LHP this year which has led to them being #2 in OPS vs. LHP. I think we see that stat continue to go down tonight when they face Cliff Lee.
The Phillies are scoring 7.30 runs per 9 vs. LHP over their last 10 games with a .290 average while the Reds are at .248 with 4.31 runs per 9 vs. LHP and a 4.88 bullpen ERA. I mention the bullpen because there is not a lot of quality there and they are being stretched. With Dontrelle Willis on the mound who is 3-6 with a 6.68 ERA in his career vs. the Phillies going it seems like they’ll need it. Willis has pitched well with the Reds, but lately he has struggled with a 1.91 WHIP and 5.74 ERA over his last 3 starts. I worry about his control and think the Phillies are a team that can really take advantage here today. After all the Reds are 6-20 in their last 26 vs. teams with a winning % over .600 and are 15-36 in their last 51 vs. the Reds. Phillies are 43-17 in their last 60 games vs. LH starters including 19-7 in their last 26 road. Get more MLB predictions from Freddy Wills at Touthouse.com.
Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
MLB Baseball Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks -143 odds (August 31st 2011)
The Diamondbacks are on fire. They’ve won 8 in a row while outscoring the opposition 42-10. Plus, they’ve won 11 straight at home. I don’t believe Colorado’s Esmil Rogers is the pitcher who will end these runs. Rogers has an ERA of 5.33 in all starts this season and checks into this matchup with an ERA of 6.11 over his last 3 starts. He has an ERA of 9.19 in 3 division starts this season. Dating back to last season, the Rockies are 1-7 in Rogers’ last 8 starts vs. the National League West. Arizona’s Collmenter, meanwhile, is carrying an ERA of 3.19 on the season and checks in with a 1.42 ERA over his last 3 starts. Collmenter’s low 1.109 WHIP is also worth noting when you consider the Rockies are 5-21 in their last 26 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. The Rockies are 9-23 in their last 32 games at Arizona. Take the D-backs.

Oakland Athletics vs. Cleveland Indians
MLB Pick: Cleveland Indians -132 odds (August 31st 2011)
The Indians come into tonight’s game having won 4 of 5, and are still in the hunt in the AL Central. Oakland doesn’t have much of anything to play for, and it has shown in their recent 4 game losing streak. The A’s have scored just 5 runs over their last four games and are a miserable 25-44 on the road this season. Cleveland will start Ubaldo Jimenez, who hasn’t been close to the same pitcher we saw in 2010. He has pitched extremely well in his two home starts for the Indians. He is 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 15 innings. I will ride that hot streak against the cold bats of the A’s tonight. Cleveland is 20-8 in their last 28 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400, 6-0 in their last 6 games as a favorite of -110 to -150, and 6-0 in their last 6 when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game.
