After getting blown out 67-100 in Game 1 to the Miami Heat, I fully expect the New York Knicks to come back with a much better effort tonight. I believe it will be good enough to cover this inflated number and stay within single-digits by game’s end.

Nothing went right for the Knicks in Game 1 as they shot 25-of-70 (35.7 percent) from the field. Tyson Chandler was held scoreless, and Carmelo Anthony went 3-of-15 for only 11 points. I expect both of these leaders to have much bigger impacts tonight while keeping their team in the game.

This is the same team that went 13-5 SU & 13-5 ATS over their final 18 games of the regular season to play their way into the playoffs, and the No. 7 seed in the East. I’m not going to let one bad game take away from what they’ve accomplished, and I still feel like they are capable of giving the Heat a run for their money in this series.

Miami was getting all the calls in Game 1, and New York is 34-15 ATS after a game – attempting 20+ less free throws than opponent since 1996. The Knicks are 8-0 ATS in their last 8 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game. New York is 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games following a S.U. loss, and 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss. Bet the Knicks Monday.

Free Play from Doc’s Sports: Take #971 Seattle over Tampa Bay (7:10pm est): Alarms are going off everywhere right now for Seattle starter Felix Hernandez, one of the game’s best starting pitchers the last five plus years or so. Hernandez velocity is way down from years past to start this season but his results have not been effected despite this. In fact Hernandez has been better than usual to start his season with 33 strikeouts to only 8 walks given up and jas an ERA of just 2.48. The Mariners usually struggle in any type situation because of their lack of offensive production but they are 5-1 in the last six Hernandez starts and an even harder to believe 17-8 when they have gone up against the AL East the last 25 times.

Tampa Bay comes into this one off another tough series as they not only battled the A.L. champions and arguably the best team in baseball, the Texas Rangers this past weekend but they did so late into last night and now are being asked to turn around, jump on a plane after that game and play this contest here tonight back at home in less than 24 hours. That is never an easy thing to do as the schedule maker wasn’t very kind here in this spot, making the Rays play in this one without a day off for travel here after playing late into last night. They go with the one guy that just seems to defy all logic in Jeremy Hellickson in this one. Hellickson doesn’t strike many guys out, he walks way more than he should and he also tends to leave the ball up in the zone too much. Despite all of this he has pitched well again this season but in my eyes he is playing with fire to say the least.

Getting one of the game’s best pitchers not only at this price but in a spot where the home team had to travel late last night and then play today, is as good as it gets from a scheduling spot in MLB. Play Seattle here in this one. Do not miss Doc’s Sports NHL and NBA card on Monday. We have been on a nice run of late and these are must have selections for any big game hunter.

MLB Picks: Milwaukee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals: April 29th 2012

Milwaukee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -116

The Brewers have been dominated in the first two games of this series and have now lost six in a row on the road and six of their last seven versus St. Louis.

Greinke has been phenomenal at home but gave up 8 earned in 3 2-3 in his lone road start. He wasn’t nearly as good on the road last season and the Brewers are 1-5 in his last 6 starts as a road underdog and 0-4 in his last 4 road starts vs. a team with a winning record.

Garcia has an ERA of 2.49 on the season and also boasts a lifetime 3.43 ERA versus Milwaukee. The Cardinals are 19-7 in his last 26 starts as a home favorite, 5-0 in his last 5 starts as a home favorite of -110 to -150 and 4-1 in his last 5 starts vs. the Brewers. We’ll take St. Louis.

Lincecum looked more like himself last time out, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits in a 6-1 victory over the Mets. I expect him to build on that effort here against a team he has dominated.

The mighty righty is 9-4 (13-5 on the ML) with an ERA of 1.96 in 18 career starts versus San Diego. He’s won each of his last 3 and 5 of his last 6 starts against the Padres, giving up no more than 1 earned run in each of those 5 victories.

The Giants are 9-2 in their last 11 games as a home favorite and 38-13 in their last 51 games as a home favorite of -151 to -200. Also, they’ve won 6 of their last 8 against the Padres. Take San Francisco.
