MLB Baseball Picks: Indians vs. Orioles Odds: July 14th 2011
The Cleveland Indians put together a tremendous first half. They currently sit just a 1/2 game out of first place in the AL Central division with a 47-42 record. The Baltimore Orioles were not a good first half team, going 36-52 and are 18 games back in the AL East. I like the Indians to pick up right where they left off tonight with a victory in Game 1 of this series with Baltimore. Justin Masterson has been one of the most underrated starters in the league this season. Masterson is 7-6 with a 2.64 ERA and 1.222 WHIP in 18 starts this year.
Masterson shut down the Yankees in his last start, pitching eight scoreless innings. He is 3-0 with a 0.40 ERA and 0.706 WHIP in his last three starts, and has pitched his best on the road this season. Jeremy Guthrie is 3-12 with a 4.18 ERA and 1.327 WHIP this season for the Orioles. Masterson faced the Orioles back on April 15th, allowing 1 earned run and 5 base runners over 7 innings of an 8-2 Cleveland victory. Guthrie pitched against the Indians on April 16th a day later, allowing 6 earned runs and 11 base runners over 5 innings of an 8-3 Cleveland win. I’ll back the better team and the better starter tonight. Take the Indians Thursday.
