You have to be impressed by the exploits of Detroit’s Verlander don’t you? He has led the Tigers to the top of the AL Central. The ace will go for win No.13 on Friday when Detroit hosts Chicago to kick off a 4-game set. Gavin Floyd (6-9, 4.59) is 0-4 in his last six starts after an 8-5 loss at home to Minnesota, and he was tagged for seven runs on nine hits in just 3.2 innings, striking out three and walking a pair of batters. Verlander (12-4, 2.15) gave up one run (none earned) on six hits over 7.2 innings of a 2-1 win in KC, striking out 9 without a single walk. The Detroit ace leads the AL in innings and strikeouts, and he’s second in complete games and wins, and he may have started the All-Star Game if he hadn’t pitched on Sunday. The 28-year-old is 9-9 in 21 career starts against the White Sox with a 4.39 ERA, and he’s a sparkling 7-2 in 11 starts at home with a 2.20 ERA. The White Sox have dropped seven of their last 10 in Detroit, with 6 games going over the posted total. It’s not likely that the White Sox are going to get more than three runs off of Verlander tonight.
