The New York Yankees look for the road sweep and their seventh win in a row as they play there last game before their weekend showdown with the first place Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. Eric Chavez and Robinson Cano both homered while Derek Jeter had five hits, Curtis Granderson had four hits, and Brett Gardener, Cano, and Chavez all had three hits as part of the 22 hit 18 run bombardment by the Yankees hitters. On the mound A.J. Burnett was given a nice cushion but still didn’t get a decision as he allowed 13 hits and seven earned runs over 4.1 innings of work giving way to Cory Wade who got the win. For game four on Chicago’s South Side New York starts Ivan Nova who makes his second start since returning to the rotation though he has won his last five decisions. For the season Nova has allowed 104 hits and 44 earned runs while striking out 57 over 98.2 innings of work.
Chicago is 0-5 in their last five games against the A.L. East, 0-5 in their last five home games, and 2-6 in Humber’s last eight home starts. New York is 6-0 in their last six games against a team with a losing record, 7-2 in their last nine road games, and 6-0 in Nova’s last six starts. New York has won the last five meetings of these two. TAKE THE YANKEES MINUS
