I’ll gladly fade the struggling Minnesota Twins tonight. Minnesota has lost six straight and nine of their last 10 to fall to 51-65 on the season, playing themselves out of contention in the AL Central division. This simply isn’t the same team without Justin Morneau in the line-up. Now they send struggling starter Nick Blackburn to the mound to face the most potent offense in baseball. Blackburn is 0-3 with an 11.68 ERA and 3.163 WHIP in his last three starts, allowing 16 earned runs and 37 base runners in 12 1/3 innings.
Jon Lester gets the ball for Boston, looking to improve on a stellar season to this point. Lester is 11-5 with a 3.23 ERA and 1.205 WHIP in 21 starts this year, including 8-1 with a 2.75 ERA and 1.030 WHIP in 12 road starts. Boston is 14-4 against the run line (+10.9 Units) vs. teams whose hitters draw 3 walks or less/game in the second half of the season this season. They are winning by 3.0 RPG in this spot. During Minnesota’s 1-9 stretch, the Twins have lost eight times by two runs or more. Take the Red Sox on the Run Line Wednesday.
