Falcons vs. Saints Point Spread: Week 3 NFL Picks: September 26th 2010

The Superdome in New Orleans, LA will be the host of NFL betting action on Sunday, September 26th when the New Orleans Saints play host to the NFC South division rival Atlanta Falcons. New Orleans has won three of the L/4 meetings between these two teams by an average of five PPG. The Saints took both meetings a year ago winning the first match-up in New Orleans 35-27 as 11-point favorites and taking game two in Atlanta 26-23 as 10-point chalk.

Point Spread: Head Coach Sean Payton’s Saints are currently listed as 3.5-point favorites with the game ‘total’ set at 50.

Atlanta is coming off a blowout win against Arizona where the 4th ranked rushing attack gained 221 yards and two TD’s led by Jason Snelling who ran for 129 yards and both TD’s. The 14th ranked passing offense led by Matt Ryan gained 225 yards through the air to go with three TD’s. They converted 33 first downs and 11-of-17 third down attempts while holding onto the pigskin for nearly 2/3rd’s of the game. The 18th ranked defense in the NFL shined with three INT’s and two sacks while allowing 164 passing yards and 118 rush yards. Look for the Saints 19th ranked rushing defense to struggle against the Falcons 4th ranked rushing attack.

New Orleans has walked the tight-rope through the first two games of the season winning both games by a total of eight points. Their 31st ranked rushing attack has now lost Reggie Bush for six weeks due to a broken fibula so Pierre Thomas will carry the load and work to improve their running game. Against San Francisco, they only gained 50 rushing yards, but managed 254 yards through the air and two TD’s. They accumulated 17 first downs while converting 6-of-14 third down attempts. The defense made some big plays recovering two fumbles while picking off two passes, but gave up a whopping 417 yards of offense.

Atlanta has been a $$$-maker in dome games going 14-7 ATS the L/2 seasons. They are also a perfect 4-0 ATS their L/4 games following a SU win of more than 14 points to move to 5-1 ATS their L/6 games overall. The Saints are 6-1 ATS in their L/7 games played in September, but just 6-6 SU & 4-7-1 ATS their L/12 division battles. These two teams have played to the ‘over’ four of the L/5 meetings.
