The defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins have shown their superiority and clutch mind set vs Columbus in this series as is evident by a 3-0 series lead. Some are saying it has been a competitive battle, but the difference maker has been at key junctures of each game, showing us the importance of the Pens play off experience . Meanwhile, the Jackets despite of a great season have lost 9 of their L/10 overall, and are consistently finding new ways to lose. With Sid Crosby and company with a death grip firmly in place , I am betting on them to gear up and tighten the noose mercilessly , and deliver the the final blow tonight for a sweep.
Penguins are 6-0 in their last 6 Conference Quarterfinals games.Blue Jackets are 0-7 in their last 7 vs. Metropolitan.Blue Jackets are 0-7 in their last 7 games playing on 1 days rest.Penguins are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.PITTSBURGH is 8-1 ATS lL9 versus very good teams – outscoring their opponents by 0.5+ goals/Game .

Columbus has been cratering of late, thanks to some crap goaltending and ugly/lazy defense, and off an embarrassing 5-1 loss vs NJ Devils last time out, as they came out in that above mentioned game asleep at the proverbial wheel. Truth is they did not pace themselves earlier this season, when they went on a 16 game winning streak, and finally hit a yield sign, as their energy waned. Now I expect John Tortorella Jackets will be hell bent on bouncing back, and getting some of their lost respect for themselves back vs a inconsistent Red Wings side.
The Blue Jackets are 9-1 in their last 10 games playing on 2 days rest and are 10-4 in their last 14 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game.Blue Jackets are 6-2 in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.Red Wings are 7-16 in their last 23 home games and are 2-8 in their last 10 vs. a team with a winning % above .600.Red Wings are 0-6 in their last 6 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game.Blue Jackets are 10-4 in the last 14 meetings.

Columbus comes in off a 7-6 OT win at Ottawa, while the Isles enter off a 3-2 OT home loss to the Flyers. Columbus has won three of its last four. Jackets’ netminder Sergei Bobrovsky is 28-9 with a 1.98 GAA on the year, including 11-5 with a 2.19 GAA on the road. He’s also dominated New York throughout his career, going 12-4 with a 2.24 GAA. Note that Columbus is ranked third in scoring at 3.33 GPG, while ranked fourth in goals allowed at just 2.28 GPG. The Isles turn to goaltender Thomas Greiss, who is 12-9 with a 2.30 GAA on the season, and 4-5 with a 2.77 GAA lifetime against Columbus. Note that the Isles average 2.84 GPG and allow 2.89. Also note that the Blue Jackets are 11-4 in their last 15 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 situation, while the Islanders are just 2-5 in their last seven after scoring two goals or less in their previous game. We think the Blue Jackets superior goaltending and offense prove too much for the inconsistent Islanders. Consider COLUMBUS.

Sunday NHL free play. My selection is on Philadelphia +1.5 goals over Columbus at 6:05 pm et on Sunday.
The Blue Jackets have suddenly cooled off, dropping back-to-back games, and I believe there’s a good chance that skid stretches to three games against the Flyers on Sunday.
With that being said, I do feel there’s value grabbing the insurance goal with the Flyers here.
Philadelphia snapped its own five-game losing streak with a win over the Lightning yesterday. It’s important that the Flyers get some positive momentum back on their side as the month of January wears on and the All-Star break approaches. They’ll certainly be up for this matchup – their first meeting with the Jackets this season.
The Jackets have owned this series lately, taking six of the last seven meetings. That only adds to the Flyers motivation here. Take Philadelphia +1.5 goals (8*).

Tuesday NHL free play. My selection is on Columbus over Los Angeles at 7:05 pm et on Tuesday.
The Blue Jackets still aren’t getting the respect they deserve from the betting marketplace.
Columbus keeps rolling along, having won nine games in a row heading into this contest. The Jackets are catching the Kings in a favorable spot here as L.A. is in the midst of a long road trip that has seen it split four games so far.
Note that the Kings are just 6-9-1 on the road this season. Meanwhile, the Blue Jackets have gone 10-3-1 at home.
The Kings have taken the last two meetings in this series, including a 3-2 home win back in October. Both of those victories came in overtime, however. Look for the Blue Jackets to exact a little revenge in this one. Take Columbus (8*).

I’ll back the Kings on Tuesday night as they aim for their third consecutive victory.
Los Angeles got off to a slow start this season but has turned it around since, thanks to back-to-back wins by way of overtime and a shootout. I don’t expect the Kings to face quite as much resistance here, even though the Blue Jackets are off consecutive wins of their own.
Note that the Kings are 7-2 in the last nine meetings in this series. The Jackets caught them flat-footed here in L.A. last November, but wins here on the west coast have been few and far between.
L.A. can secure a winning homestand with a win here, as a tougher matchup against the Predators awaits on Thursday night. The Jackets have been fortunate to earn wins in their last two games as they were outshot and outplayed in both contests.
