  • (Editor’s Note: Scott “The Bulldog” Rickenbach has had 4 straight winning Saturdays (every Saturday in November!) with his CFB Premium Picks. He brought a 14-5, 74% CFB run with all Saturday CFB selections into this week’s action. His premium picks in CFB today include a 3:30 ET start, a 7:30 ET start and his Big Ten GAME OF THE YEAR @ 8 ET. This is his 2nd Free Pick for Saturday – Scott “The Bulldog” Rickenbach

CFB Game #331 Saturday – Virginia Tech Hokies (+) vs Clemson Tigers in ACC Championship Game @ 8 ET – With this this line moving up to and holding at +11, I have decided to go with a 2nd Free Pick today. Keep in mind, this is to be played just as you played the first free pick today but, as always, these picks are not assigned a star rating like my premium and guaranteed picks are. However, every pick I release is important and certainly I won’t release any game unless I like it well enough to play it. In this case, it is “go time” with the Hokies.

Clemson is a little over-valued here because of the shellacking they just handed to South Carolina. Virginia Tech is under-valued because the public looks at this team and still sees a football program that won only 6 regular season games in 3 of the past 4 seasons. However, head coach Justin Fuente has breathed new life into this program once he stepped into the top spot and the Hokies offense has been very nearly as potent as the Tigers. Keep in mind that the Virginia Tech defense also has bounced back after having their worst season last year in a long, long time. The fact is that the Hokies D has nearly matched Clemson’s performance this season. The point is that this is a very large pointspread on this game when you consider how closely matched these two programs truly are this season. Couple that with the fact that all the pressure (playoff pressure!) is on Clemson here and you have the makings of a potential upset in this one in my opinion. I’ll certainly grab the generous points being offered here. 2nd Free Pick for Saturday on VIRGINIA TECH plus the big points. Best of luck, Scott “The Bulldog” Rickenbach

Tulsa vs. Virginia Tech Bowl Game Betting Prediction from Dave Price: December 26th 2015

The Virginia Tech Hokies are simply laying too many points to Tulsa in the Independence Bowl. Frank Beamer will be coaching his last game, and while his players will be motivated because of it, putting away Tulsa by more than two touchdowns is a lot to ask. They were outgained by 129 yards in their 3-point win over Virginia in the season finale that they needed just to get bowl eligible. Tulsa was only beaten by more than 14 points twice all season. Its offense, which averages 36 points and 503 yards per game this season, is good enough to keep it in this game for four quarters. The Golden Hurricane are 6-0 ATS in their last six games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game. Take Tulsa.

Anytime NC State stepped up in competition last year they lost and they particularly struggled vs. solid defenses. NC State lost last week against Louisville in their own building and now travel on the short week to play against Virginia Tech who lost at home to Pittsburgh. On paper it looks like a nice night for Frank Beamer and the Hokies to get a nice win, but I’m actually going to lean towards NC State in this one as I have definitely talked myself out of backing the Hokies.

First of all the Hokies defense is not as good as they were supposed to be ranking 109th in yards per carry, and 102nd overall in yards per play. Not a very good sign going up against NC State which features a very good duo at QB in Jacoby Brisset and Matthew Dayes at RB. Virginia Tech will have it’s hand full with an offense that is dangerous in the red zone scoring TD’s on 21 of their 24 possessions. Granted it those have been against lesser defenses, but Virginia Tech has not shown enough this year to make me believe and the fact that they mustered just 100 yards of total offense last week against Pitt leads me to believe that NC State should win this game.

Virginia Tech has not been able to run the ball, NC State has been better at stopping it. Virginia Tech probably gets Brewer back at QB, but he’ll struggle against this secondary, and NC State still has a very under rated defense that should keep them in this game. Actually NC State also rarely gets penalized making it much easier for an offense that converts 47% of their 3rd downs compared to 25% allowed. Virginia Tech comes in at 39% and 30% allowed and has averaged 5 more penalties per game. NC state must take care of the ball and not make the mistake sand they’ve been able to do that all year and that will be enough for them to come out of here with a win.

Virginia Tech vs. Ohio State Over-Under Betting Pick from Boomtown Sports: September 7th 2015

This is a tough game to figure out tonight, but we lean to the UNDER 53. Virgina Tech’s defense is about as good as it gets in college football – especially against the pass, and they have 8 returning starters from last year. They should be able to give Buckeye QB’s fits, given they only have 1 receiver out of their top from last year in this game. Bud Foster likely has some wrinkles that will take Ohio State some time to figure out. On the other side, Tech can be dreadful moving the ball against top defenses. If they play conservatively and let the defense create opportunities then they should be able to stay close in a low scoring game. It’s college though, so the chances of pick 6’s and special teams scores are always there and a threat to betting unders. We’ll go with the odds of a slower paced defense-controlled game, especially in the 1st half.
