Tennessee vs. Michigan State Prediction & Odds: March 28th 2010 NCAA Tournament Picks
Tennessee Volunteers vs. Michigan State Spartans
The Midwest Bracket has been the wildest of the four in the NCAA Tournament, and after three rounds worth of upsets and surprises, the #6 Tennessee Volunteers (28-8, 15-16-2 ATS) and the #5 Michigan State Spartans (27-8, 14-20 ATS) are the two teams left standing. They’ll duke it out in a March Madness betting battle on Sunday afternoon at the Edwards Jones Dome in St. Louis, MO. The Volunteers toppled Ohio State 76-73 to pull the mild upset of the #2 Buckeyes in the Sweet 16. MSU trashed Northern Iowa 59-52 to eliminate the sweethearts of the tournament.
Superior depth took out superior talent on Friday night. The Volunteers rotated ten players, while Ohio State only managed seven. F Wayne Chism didn’t quite outshine G Evan Turner, but he looked like a man amongst boys at times. He shot 6/13 from the floor, scoring 22 points and ripped down 11 boards to boot. F Brian Williams came up a point shy of a double-double. G JP Prince, G Cameron Tatum, and G Bobby Maze all reached double digits in scoring.
The Spartans knew that they were going to have problems with depth and backcourt play when G Kalin Lucas went down with the ruptured Achilles tendon injury he suffered in the Round of 32. MSU also had to overcome a lousy game from F Raymar Morgan, as he spent a good amount of time on the bench with foul trouble and only scored seven points for the game. G Korie Lucious, who replaced Lucas in the lineup, scored ten points to be the second leading scorer on the team, and he also picked up six boards and four assists.
The Volunteers are 5-1-1 ATS in their L/7 college basketball betting bashes with Big Ten opponents, including that cover against the Buckeyes two nights ago. Michigan State is 6-1 ATS in its L/7 against the SEC though, which should make for a tremendous clash. Both teams have betting trends going against them as well. Tennessee is just 1-7 ATS in its L/8 games following an ATS victory, but that one cover was the ATS ‘W’ against OSU. Michigan State is just 3-8 ATS in its L/11 games against teams with a winning record.
