The Detroit Tigers should be a heavier road favorite over the Cleveland Indians tonight. Given the advantage the Tigers have on the mound in this one, I like their chances of a blowout victory.

Detroit will give the ball to the electric Max Scherzer. The right-hander has gone 5-0 with a 3.98 ERA and 0.994 WHIP with 68 strikeouts over 54 1/3 innings this season. Scherzer is a superb 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA and 0.818 WHIP in three road starts this year.

Corey Kluber is no match for Scherzer. The right-hander is 3-2 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.4143 WHIP in four starts and two relief appearances. Kluber is also 1-2 with a 7.71 ERA and 1.714 WHIP in his last three starts, and 1-2 with an 8.04 ERA and 1.914 WHIP in three career starts against Detroit.

The Tigers are 5-0 in Scherzer’s last 5 starts with the total set at 7.0-8.5. Detroit is 20-8 in Scherzer’s last 28 starts overall. The Indians are 1-7 in Kluber’s last 8 home starts, and 0-5 in his last 5 starts as a home underdog. Bet the Tigers Tuesday.

After losing two out of the first three games in this series, the Detroit Tigers want a win in Game 4 to square it up. I’ll back them at an excellent price tonight with Doug Fister on the mound.

Fister has been dominant all season, and he deserves more respect from the books as a result. The right-hander is 5-1 with a 3.06 ERA and 1.180 WHIP through eight starts this season. Check out ALL of Jack Jones’ premium MLB picks for May 19th 2013 on our expert sports picks page at Touthouse.com

The Tigers are 37-15 in their last 52 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. Detroit is 5-0 in Fister’s last 5 starts with a total set of 9.0 to 10.5. Bet the Tigers Sunday.

It’s rare that you get the opportunity to back arguably the best pitcher in all of baseball as an underdog. Well, that is what has been given to us tonight as Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers are a dog to the Texas Rangers Thursday.

I’ll gladly take advantage and back Verlander at his best price of the season. The 2011 AL MVP & Cy Young winner has gone 4-3 with a 1.93 ERA and 1.208 WHIP in 2013. Verlander is also 8-3 with a 2.50 ERA in 13 career starts against Texas.

Yu Darvish has been putting up solid numbers in his own right, but he’s no Verlander. Plus, Darvish has posted a 4.50 ERA in his last three starts. He has also given up seven earned runs over 13 2/3 innings in his last two home starts against Detroit for a 4.61 ERA.

The Tigers are 51-22 in Verlander’s last 73 starts overall. Detroit is 37-14 in its last 51 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. The Tigers are 65-26 in Verlander’s last 91 starts with 4 days of rest. Detroit is 8-3 in Verlander’s last 11 starts vs. Texas. Bet the Tigers Thursday.

The ‘under’ is 4-1 in five previous meetings between these two teams this season, and I look for that trend to continue on Wednesday.

The Twins aren’t hitting with any consistency right now, and have managed to push only four runs across home plate in the first two games of this series. They aren’t likely to bust out against Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez, who is pitching as well as any starter in baseball right now.

Sanchez tossed eight innings of five-hit, shutout ball against the Braves last Friday, striking out an incredible 17 hitters along the way. He’s given up two earned runs or less in all five starts this season, yet the ‘over’ has cashed in four of those five contests.

Enter the Tigers offense. They’ve been terrific, as expected. However, I expect to see a bit of a letdown at the dish today, after every starter banged out at least a hit in last night’s 6-1 victory. Keep in mind, it’s ‘getaway day’ not only for the visiting Twins, but also for the Tigers, as they’ll head to Houston to start a road trip tomorrow night.

Scott Diamond will be in charge of slowing down the Tigers on Wednesday. He’s been up to the task before, holding them to two earned runs or less in each of his last four starts against them. Diamond brings solid form to the table today, having allowed only four earned runs in 12 1/3 innings of work over his last two outings.

The Twins bullpen has quietly been getting the job done, posting a collective 2.30 ERA so far this season. The Tigers ‘pen hasn’t been quite as solid, but it won’t matter all that much if Sanchez is able to work deep into the game. Look for a fairly low-scoring game at Comerica Park on Wednesday. Take the under (1*).
