Nebraska hasn’t been the same team on the road where it is 2-2 straight up and 1-3 against the spread. Each of its road wins have come by four points or less. Dating back to last season, the Cornhuskers are just 1-5-1 against the spread in their last seven road games.

It bodes well for Iowa backers that Nebraska enters off a 38-14 home win against Minnesota. Consider that the Huskers are on a 15-32 against the spread slide in road games following a home win by 17 points or more. The Huskers have won by an average of only 5.3 points in this situation.

Nebraska averages a healthy 5.5 yards per rush, but Iowa is on an impressive 19-3 against the spread run versus excellent running teams that average 5.25 yards or more per carry. The Hawkeyes are also on an 11-2 against the spread run versus high-octane offensive teams that average 37.0 points or more per game. The Hawks have won by an average score of 28.6 to 27.9 in these games.

Since Kirk Ferentz took over as head man, Iowa has gone 28-13 against the spread in games following a loss on the road. It has also gone 18-9 against the spread in home games following a defeat to a conference rival. It has won by an average score of 25.9 to 21.6 in this situation.

Take the points as Iowa shows up on senior day and gives the Huskers a game.

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Michigan Wolverines Football Betting Preview & Odds

Nebraska A Slight Home Favorite in Big 10 Showdown With Michigan
By SBRForum.com

Michigan at Nebraska is a juicy parcel from the Big 10 on Saturday’s college football menu featuring two evenly matched teams with first-place of the conference’s Legends division on the line.

Both teams sport identical 5-2 overall records with Michigan (3-0) holding a one-game advantage in the Big 10 division race over the Cornhuskers (2-1). This week’s college football odds tab Nebraska as 2.5-point home favorites over the Wolverines.

The Cornhuskers stayed in the Big 10 race last week thanks to a dramatic 29-28 win over Northwestern. Quarterback Taylor Martinez threw for three touchdowns, including the game-winner with 2:08 left on the clock. Nebraska previously beat Wisconsin 30-27 and two weeks ago were undressed at Ohio St. 63-28.

Michigan survived a 12-10 slug-fest against in-state rival Michigan St. last week to keep the pole position in the Legends division. The Wolverines two losses this year have come to Alabama and Notre Dame, who are Nos. 1 and 5 in this week’s BCS poll.

Nebraska is led by the country’s No. 6 rushing attack that averages 279 yards a game. Martinez is one of three major running threats the ‘Huskers employ along with Rex Burkhead and Ameer Abdullah. Burkhead, a senior leader for Big Red, is doubtful to play this week because of a knee injury.

The concern for Nebraska is a defense that coughed up 63 points to the Buckeyes and are 96th in the country in points allowed. It’s a tough unit to have much confidence in at this point, especially with Denard Robinson coming to town.

It’s been an up-and-down season to this point for Robinson, Michigan’s senior quarterback and perennial Heisman candidate. He’s thrown nine touchdown passes and nine interceptions through seven games, but has also ran for six scores and is close to again surpassing 1,000-yards rushing for the season. Robinson still has the potential to be the best player on the field at any moment and may provide problems for the ‘Huskers defense.

The line on this game tells you how difficult it is to handicap, with the home team not quite laying the obligatory field goal worthy of home-field advantage. Both are veteran teams from big-time programs fighting for the same slot in the Big 10 Championship game. The prognosis here is Michigan will score early and often against Nebraska’s porous defense and get just enough stops to earn the mild upset.

The Michigan Wolverines have bounced back nicely from early losses to Alabama and Notre Dame, two teams that are a combined 14-0 this season. They have been taking care of business in Big Ten play, opening 3-0 while outscoring their first three opponents a combined 101-23.

Nebraska could easily be 0-3 in Big Ten play this season. It lost at Ohio State 38-63 in a game where its run defense was exposed. The Huskers had to come back from a 10-27 deficit to beat Wisconsin 30-27 at home. They also erased a 16-28 deficit at Northwestern over the final 5:55 to win 29-28 last week. This team has been fortunate to say the least.

I believe the Huskers’ luck runs out Saturday against a Michigan team that won last year’s meeting 45-17 at home. The Wolverines outgained the Huskers 418-260 while amassing 238 yards on the ground. Fitzgerald Toussaint rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns, while Denard Robsinon added 83 yards and two scores. The defense also limited Taylor Martinez to 49 yards on 16 carries, and Rex Burkhead to 36 yards on 10 carries.

Once again, this is a terrible match-up for a Nebraska and a great match-up for Michigan. The Wolverines rank 17th in the country in rushing offense (222.6 yards/game) while the Huskers rank a woeful 87th against the run (187.9 yards/game). The Buckeyes rushed for 371 yards on the Huskers and I look for Michigan to put up a similar total behind Robinson and Toussaint.

The Wolverines are 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game. Michigan is 5-1-1 ATS in its last 7 games following a ATS loss. The Wolverines are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game. The Huskers are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win. Nebraska is 0-5 ATS in its last 5 vs. a team with a winning record. Bet Michigan Saturday.

This may look like a safe spot to bet Michigan as a small road favorite, but I believe your money needs to be on the Cornhuskers. Michigan is simply not a very good team on the road, where Nebraska easily plays their best basketball at home. In conference play the Wolverines are just 1-4 on the road, with their only win coming by 2-points at Purdue. Eight of Nebraska’s 11 wins have came at home, including a shocking win over Indiana as 3.5-point underdog.

Even though Michigan comes into this game off a loss, I think it’s going to be extremely hard for them to get motivated to play a poor team like Nebraska, especially with two huge home games against Illinois and Ohio State next up on the schedule.

Nebraska simply isn’t a popular team to bet on in college basketball, which in turn has allowed the oddsmakers to really set up the public. The Cornhuskers are 32-12 ATS at home when the line is +3 to -3 since 1997 and are 15-4 ATS as a home underdog of 3 points or less or pick since 1997. BET NEBRASKA!
