I’ll side with the dog tonight in what I believe is a very evenly-matched game between Indiana and Syracuse. Both teams are very strong inside and out, and I look for this one to go right down to the wire.

Syracuse has saved its best basketball for last. It made it to the Big East Championship Game before running out of gas against Louisville playing its 4th game in 4 days. The Orange have beaten Montana and California in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament by a combined 53 points.

Indiana was ousted in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament 56-68 by Wisconsin. It trailed throughout against Temple in the Round of 32 before rallying in the final minutes to pull out a 58-52 victory. This team is clearly vulnerable, and it has been overvalued as evidenced by the fact that it is 2-6 ATS in its last 8 games overall.

The Orange don’t get enough credit for how good they are defensively. They only allow 59.4 points/game on 37.3% shooting this year. They also defend the 3-pointer as well as anyone in the country, allowing just 28.9% from 3-point range. That’s key against an Indiana team that shoots 40.8% from beyond the arc. Syracuse is 27-13 ATS as a neutral court underdog or pick since 1997. Indiana is 7-18-2 ATS in its last 27 neutral site games. The Hoosiers are 0-6 ATS in road games after a game being called for 10+ less fouls than opponent over the last 3 seasons. Indiana is 2-9 ATS when playing against a good team (Win Pct. 60% to 80%) after 15 or more games this season. Bet Syracuse Thursday.

Georgetown has easily taken the first two meetings of this season series but Syracuse will be out for some payback tonight.

It seems very fitting that Syracuse and Georgetown meet for one last time before the Orange bolt to the ACC next season. Syracuse is coming off a big win against Pittsburgh Thursday, almost blowing a big lead in the process, but it was a much needed win for the shaky confidence that has seemed to engulf this team down the stretch. The Panthers defense did not do a very good job against the Orange perimeter shooting as they were 12-19 from long range but Syracuse cannot rely on that again considering it was a combined 5-32 (15.6 percent) in the two meetings against the Hoyas this season. Still, we can expect a much better effort tonight. Brandon Triche had his second solid game of the tournament as he continues to pick up the pieces from a terrible stretch to end the regular season while James Southerland looks extremely comfortable back in the city he grew up in. After losing four of five games to end the regular season with all four losses coming against NCAA Tournament bound teams, Syracuse got some of that momentum back that was present for much of the season and it will be out for some payback on Friday. Georgetown toyed with Cincinnati before pulling away down the stretch and it will look to continue the domination of Syracuse after winning the first two meetings by a combined 33 points. If only it were that easy. The Hoyas are catching the Orange at the wrong time in my opinion and as much flak as head coach Jim Boeheim has taken this season and some of it rightfully so, he has thrived in these situations, going 9-2 ATS revenging a loss of 20 points or more. Additionally, the underdog has covered five of the last six and we can expect that to continue as the public will be all over the short favorite. Play (861) Syracuse Orange

I like West Virginia to cover the small number against Syracuse here today. The Mountaineers are 10-1 ATS on the road against passing defenses allowing a 62% completion rate or worse going back to 1992. West Virginia is completing 70.5% of their passes on the season and will match up well a Orange defense that gives up 63.1% passing on the season.

I also like the strength of the Big 12 over the Big East this year. West Virginia fell off in the middle of the season and had a couple of close losses to Oklahoma and TCU, much tougher competition than the Orange faced. The last three games the Mountaineers found a rushing attack to go with their aerial attack, gaining 458 yards against Oklahoma, 239 against Iowa State, and 240 versus Kansas on the ground.

The only thing keeping this from being a premium pick for me is the fact that Syracuse ended their season with three decent wins, but I think they struggle with the step up in competition here today.

You have to give credit to Syracuse for what is has done the last two weeks. The Orange destroyed Connecticut last Friday and then pulled out a huge come-from-behind win over South Florida this past Saturday. They hit the road once again and are actually getting fewer points this week against a team that is a lot stronger than the Bulls. Syracuse is now 4-4 on the year so a bowl game is back in the picture but this begins the stretch of three straight games against top quality opponents. The Bearcats opened the season at 5-0 but they have dropped their last two games. A loss at Toledo two weeks ago was inexcusable and then a loss at Louisville this past Thursday night hurt their chances of a possible Big East title. They had their chances to snag both of those games but just fell short and now they return home for the first of three home games in their next four where they are a perfect 5-0 on the season. The road team has won by 17, 24 and 21 points the last three meetings but that comes to an end here. Play (374) Cincinnati Bearcats
