Week 1 College Football Predictions
Week 1 College Football Predictions
By SBRForum.com
There’s always a back-to-school feeling in the air once August rolls around but one of the good things about the returns to classes is the returns to campus. The college football season is less than a month way (kickoff is August 30th), so let’s get in the mood early with some college football picks for Week 1.
Tennessee Volunteers vs North Carolina State Wolfpack
Betting Line: Tennessee -3
The Volunteers have struggled in the Derek Dooley era but this appears to be their best team to date. They have a whopping 17 starters back including quarterback Tyler Bray, who proved to be one of the better quarterbacks in the nation last season.
They match up very well against the Wolpack, who also rely on their quarterbacking. They’ve got a special one in Sean Glennon but he’s hardly proved to be the man many thought he’d be and he’s got very little help around him.
This is an SEC vs ACC matchup and SEC is quite superior. Take the Vols.
College Football Picks: Vols
Miami (OH) Redhawks @ Ohio State Buckeyes
Betting Line: Ohio State -21.5
The Buckeyes will be welcoming new head coach Urban Meyer in this contest, so look for them to be aiming for a statement win right off the bat. Good thing they get a cupcake tossed to them as Miami of Ohio visits.
Often times when there’s a head coaching change, it’s because the team has underachieved in the previous regime. That’s not exactly the case as Meyer inherits a team that’s chalk-full of talent but was merely under fire from the NCAA.
This will be a message-sending win by Ohio State and they won’t take their foot off the gas at any point.
College Football Picks: Buckeyes
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs Virginia Tech Hokies
Betting Line: Virginia Tech -7
The Yellow Jackets had a rough finish to their 2012 campaign but that was mostly because their defense collapsed from under them. The team was No. 83 in the country on third down but spent ample time improving that side of the ball.
They should look reasonably competent against Virginia Tech, who is mediocre on offense.
This is an important ACC contest right off the bat and both teams have had all offseason to scheme. Look for this to be a tight contest from start to finish.
College Football Picks: Yellow Jackets
